Daphnia Water Fleas Breeding Culture

€5,90

Water Fleas / Daphnia pulex

Daphnia are found in our lakes and ponds.
They are easy to breed and are very commonly used as
ornamental fish food. They also don't require any special
care and reproduce very quickly.
Daphnia pulex grow to about 5mm.

Water fleas produce offspring within their own bodies.
Alternatively, they can lay resting eggs that can survive for decades.

Glass jars, buckets, aquariums, etc. are suitable as breeding containers.
No special equipment is needed in the container. If you do want to aerate, please make sure that no current is created. Otherwise, daphnia can die.

Here you can see a small culture of mine.

For breeding, fill a container of 0.5 liters or more with distilled
or still mineral water. You can also use rainwater.
For initial cultivation, always start with a small container up to 1 liter.
Pour water over the egg-sand mixture and make sure that the eggs are in the water at the edge.
After 5 to 14 days, the first daphnia will be visible.
Even if not many are visible, they will multiply quickly.

After hatching, start feeding carefully. Better too little than too much. If the water becomes foul, the culture is usually beyond saving. You can feed with algae powder, Liquizell, and dried yeast.
Always dissolve some in water and feed. Then only feed again when the water is almost clear again.

Please make sure to rinse the plastic bag with the culture water.
Otherwise, the eggs will stick to the bag !!!

You will receive an egg-sand mixture from me.
I also include a small bag of algae powder.

Good luck !!!
